ANGAMARDANA

Angamardana is an ancient yogic system used by yogis in ancient times to gain mastery over the body and mind. The process helps to create a level of fitness largely absent in today’s approach to exercise.  Angamardana means to gain complete mastery over the limbs, organs and other parts of the body. It is a certain conditioning of the body and mind using a knowledge of the human system that leaves you in peak physical and mental health.

This course is for anyone 8 years and over and can be  taken by anyone with no previous experience of yoga. Due to the physical intensity of the practice, it is advisable  to talk to us first before booking.

What is Angamardana ?

More than just a workout – Angamardana is a complete process of ‘ultimate fitness’ beyond the regular idea of muscle building and cardiovascular health. Creating a body that leaves you feeling free and energized to do whatever you want to do. Whether you want to climb up a mountain, sit absorbed in meditation or work continuously and stay focused – Angamardana can deliver true fitness. It is about strengthening the mind and cultivating the energy system (pranamayakosha) therefore allowing you to take your body far beyond the capacity offered by common forms of exercise. It is a process which invigorates the body and revitalizes all the bodily systems, including muscular, skeletal, nervous, circulatory and respiratory. In the yogic system, Angamardana is used to culture the body and prepare it for the deeper practices of Yoga.

Origins of Angamardana

Angamardana is deeply rooted in the ancient yogic sciences (along with Kalaripayattu – known as the mother of all modern martial arts) and has been used by yogis for millennia to prepare for intense sadhana (spiritual practice) to help them reach their ultimate goal. It is said to have been developed by the yogi Agastya Muni who was one of the Sapta Rishis (seven disciples of Adiyogi more commonly known as Shiva). Here it has been offered as a part of Isha Hatha Yoga through the knowledge and experience of Sadhguru in order to offer everyone the opportunity to revitalize their bodily system on all levels including muscular, cardiovascular, skeletal, and the nervous system.
